What Now? - Mission: Dinosaur Sculpture

Zoe: We should make a dinosaur sculpture out of plastic. We’ll need to learn how to make one.
Molly: We need to make a big sculpture all together out of clay. We need to know how to make it and decide what dinosaur we are going to make.
Keira: We should make a sculpture out of wood, we need to learn how to make it and where to get the wood from and how to take the leaves off and make it flat.
Thomas: We need to paint our clay dinosaurs.
Noah: We need to go to an art factory and we should make a sculpture out of bricks and clay. They could make it and put them in a big pile.
Shaun: I could bring wood to school, my dad works with wood and trucks.
Gabriella: We could make it out of paper.
Sean: Papier mache. It is the best thing to make it out of, it’s stronger than normal paper. You get two or three pieces of paper and glue it together.
Ashtyn: I agree with Keira about wood because it is stronger.
Noah: I agree with Molly we do need to make it bigger and make it out of other things.
Matt:  We could make a massive dinosaur up to the roof. We could make it out of bricks and wood and stuff.
Sean: and carve it out of a big stone.
Bradley: Maybe we could go to the museum and have a look at dinosaur bones.
Alicya: I agree with Keira that we should use wood, it’s strong.

Shawn: We could make a pea sculpture.
Quinn: We can put it with four legs, it will be easier to stand up.
Noah: I agree with Bradley because we do need to go to the museum and we could look at the bones, make them and then put them together. We could make the bones out of clay.
Sean: I agree with Quinn, it will be easier to have four legs because a two legged dinosaur only has legs at one end of its body and it might topple over.
Dion: We should cut it out of wood.
Thomas: I agree with Noah, I know there is a museum in Christchurch. We can go and see the dinosaur, the real one that lived 100 years ago.
Emelia: I agree with Keira we need to learn how to glue and stick it.
Ashtyn: I think we could make the feet wider so it is steadier. If it has wide feet it is steadier.
Noah: We should go to the museum and find out about 4 legged dinosaurs.
Ashtyn: We should make a spinosaur with long legs so it doesn't fall over, we could make it with steel and put papier mache over it. We would use steel so it doesn’t break.
Kyla: We could make a sculpture out of paint. We could paint something and stick it together.
Shawn: I agree with Noah, we should make the skeleton and make it out of wood.
Gabriella: We could make one out of heaps of dices

Ashtyn: I disagree with Ashton because we couldn’t cut the steel.
Ashton: My dad is an engineer and he uses heaps of steel.
Noah: I agree with using steel because it is strong.
Shaun: We could use concrete  because my dad has every single truck except freight liners.
Emelia: We could make it out of bits and pieces like tyres, flax, sticks and stuff.
Jasmine: We could make the dinosaur out clay and paper.
Gabriella: Out of pencils.
Ashtyn: We need a saw to cut some things. A drop saw is sharper than a normal saw. Dad uses it to cut hard wood. You could cut your fingers off.
Sean: I think we should see what we can make the sculpture out of like, if there’s something stronger than steel and rock.  We might miss out on that because steel and rock are about the same strongness.
Emelia: We could make a dinosaur out of plants.

We ended the conversation here with the children going home to do some research on four legged dinosaurs, so we can choose which one to make.
